The Benefits of Humbleness
1 Peter 5:5-7 (NKJV) 5 Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” 6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
Peter, who wrote this amazing letter is the same Simon Peter to whom Jesus said: Get behind Me, Satan!, the one who cut off the ear of a soldier and also who denied Jesus for three times. In all these episodes he was called Simon Peter, but when he had an encounter with God and was baptized in the Holy Spirit, he became only Peter, “Petros=A Fragment of Rock”. This letter has been written in the last days of his life, before he had been crucified upside down in Greece by the strongest persecution against Christians in the first Century. Peter had been transformed by the Power of God from a very rude and arrogant man into a very humble and meek man that walked with Jesus. Peter shows us throughout his life how painful the fruit of arrogance is and how glorious the fruit of humility is.
